Backfilling corner frames on T30-1 N2/50 and T30-2 N22/50 fire resistant door units with Novoferm fire protection foam is tested to the criteria of EN 1634-1 and building code approved as per DIN 4102-5. As such, an additional and professional variant is available for installing T30 fire resistant doors made by Novoferm that saves considerable time and cost, especially when renovating or modernizing existing properties – as demonstrated by the widespread experience of metalworkers and fitters in practice.

Step 1: Position the frame
Using Novoferm fire protection foam to backfill frames is approved for T30-1 N2/50 or T30-2 N22/50 fire resistant doors up to 1350 x 2500 mm (1 leaf) or 3000 x 3000 mm (2 leaf) with corresponding corner frame in masonry or concrete. The corner frame is fastened as usual in compliance with applicable installation rules using a choice of bolts, plugs, or weld-on installation.

Step 2: Backfill with fire protection foam
Once the frame has been properly fastened, and all dust removed from the cavity between frame and wall, water is sprayed into the cavity as the dampness makes the foam expand more effectively. Using a foam gun, the cavity is then entirely filled with foam in two phases, first the area at the back, then the part at the front. Then leave the foam to dry for at least 30 minutes.
For purposes of documenting approval compliant installation, the foam can has a detachable self-adhesive label that is stuck on the declaration of conformity.

Step 3: Make the wall connection
Once the foam has hardened (min. 30 minutes) the overhang is simply cut off with a sharp knife or cutter. Depending on the fastening variant, the transition between frame and wall can then be plastered over or (on the opposite hinge side) cleanly covered with an optional self-adhesive plastic profile with soft lip, which can be painted over.

Step 4: Install door panel and accessories
The door panel, handle set, sealing profile and any other accessories, such as overhead door closer or panic lock, are then installed as normal, utterly irrespective of the type of frame backfilling.
